Poverty, archaic rituals, organised crime – a story from the south of Italy behind God’s back: three friends from the mountain village of Africo in Calabria refuse to give in to fate or their local godparents. The sons of poor goatherds, who as children guarded rich kidnapped industrialists from the north in the dense forests of the Aspromonte mountains, they want to escape the cycle of tradition and hardship. They enter Milan’s international drug business – from petty theft to becoming pawns of impenetrable powers.
