The story is about two lonely 10-year-old children, Jess Aarons and Leslie Burke. They become best friends at school. Together, they use their imagination to create a secret, magical kingdom in the woods called Terabithia. To enter this world, they swing across a creek on a rope. In Terabithia, they are the king and queen, and they feel safe from bullies and family problems.
