1984

The story is set in a terrifying totalitarian future where the state, led by the mysterious Big Brother, exerts total control over every aspect of human life. The protagonist, Winston Smith, works for the Ministry of Truth, where his job is to rewrite history to suit the Party’s propaganda. Despite the constant surveillance of “telescreens” and the threat of the Thought Police, Winston begins a secret rebellion by falling in love and daring to remember the truth about the past. The novel is a chilling exploration of how language and history can be manipulated to destroy individual thought and freedom.
