The adult character of the short story tells about an event in his childhood in the first person. A boy plays with a bow and arrow. He sees a tired kitten and shoots an arrow at it, mortally wounding the animal. Seeing the kitten’s suffering, he changes – his enthusiasm is replaced by pity and guilt, so he throws the bow and runs back home. You dare not approach the shot animal until three days have passed. He breaks his arrows, but he does not dare to pull out the arrow with which he was hindering from the cat’s body. The story ends with the words, expressing a deep sense of guilt: “It was my only shot. But happy. I still carry it on my chest.”
