A quest for the human face of prisoners, undoubtedly one of the most forgotten groups in our society Jan De Cock travelled the world, from prison to prison, in search of life behind bars. Through steppe and desert, by boat or bicycle, he sought out the detainees, in temperatures ranging from +45 to -25 degrees. He met petty thieves, pickpockets and aeroplane hijackers. He shared the cell with musicians or actors, with hitmen and mothers who stole food for their children. He lived in the company of rats and fleas, lizards and grasshoppers. From Chile to Siberia…Hotel Prison is an adversarial tale of the hidden existence of all too often forgotten people.
